Album + Interview + stuff!

Our album is literally just hours away from being mixed and mastered, we’re really excited. Next week we’ll be announcing details of the album, a release date, options for pre-orders, and other cool stuff. You can listen to two of the tracks on our bandcamp. Aside from that, we just did an interview with PunkNews, which can be found at http://www.punknews.org/article/47501, and we’re playing Saturday at Crash Doubt Fest, with so many awesome bands and good friends we’re looking forward to seeing again. Definitely going to be a great weekend. See you soon!

2011

We’re done for the year, thanks to everyone for helping to make it pretty damn good. This time last year I wasn’t even in a band - I certainly never could have expected I’d be recording an album within twelve months, or that my band would be playing shows with some of my favourite bands like The Menzingers and Red City Radio. We played 20 shows this year since our first one in May, and I’m really thankful for all the promoters that gave us a chance to play. We didn’t manage to venture further South than Bristol, but Manchester, Derby, Liverpool, Leeds, Leicester, Cheltenham, Peterborough, Leamington and Cardiff were all good to us.

In three weeks we will be picking up recording again for the album. That’s really where our focus is right now - we don’t have any shows booked for the next couple of months. Get in touch if you want to put us on though, shows are always welcome. We’re going to have a brand new song online really soon, so look out for that.

Thanks again. We’re hoping to make real progress in 2012 so look out for the album, tell your friends, and come down to a show. Oh and if someone could get us on the Fest lineup that’d be pretty sweet.

Watch Commander Album

We go into the studio on Sunday to start recording the Watch Commander album. In a lot of ways it has come about all of a sudden. Just a couple of conversations in the summer brought the idea into focus, and some support and enthusiasm from outside was just enough of a push to convince us. Keeping in mind that we had our first ever band practice just ten months ago, and we decided on the album only one month after releasing the Closer to Home EP online, even I’m kind of impressed. I think a lot of it comes down to ambition, in the form of wanting to create something real and substantial that we can be proud of. In all honesty, I think if we were given more shows between the summer and Christmas, we probably would have waited until next year. But no one knows who we are so that didn’t happen. The only thing that was discouraging us was really the money. Recording is not cheap, especially recording eleven songs. But personally, I’ve wanted to make an album for over ten years now, ever since I was learning guitar and playing in silly school bands and reading through the booklets of every CD I bought as a kid, so once my mind was set on it, that was it. And as far as the money goes, we are avoiding astronomical costs by recording with Bob again. We’re stepping up the quality by laying down drums in a professional studio, but the rest we’re keeping low-key. In fact most of it will be done at my house in Worcester. And recording with Bob makes the whole thing more comfortable too, rather than some guy we don’t know. I feel like he has a good idea of us as people, of us as a band, and he wants the same outcome that we do. He’s also talented at what he does and he’s dedicated to always improving.

So here we are, on the verge of recording two EPs and a full-length within eleven months of being a band, and I’m pretty excited. It may seem rushed to some, and I can’t argue with that, but if we can do it now, why not? In a year we may look back and think we could have written a better album, but isn’t that part of progressing as a band? All eleven of these new songs were written between August and October of this year, are a cohesive collection of ideas, and are the best thing we’ve done so far.

My two goals for the record are 1. to be proud of it, and 2. for our friends to like it. If at any point next year I see anyone singing along to some of the words, I will be beyond stoked. The album has a name, and it has a track listing, but we’re going to wait a little while before that stuff makes its way online. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can put a new song up too. We’re not ready to peg a release date for the album yet, but there’s a good chance it’ll all be done by March.

I may put a studio diary together as we go through this process, for my own interest if nothing else. Might include commentary about what the songs are about and where it all came from etc.

Huge thanks to everyone that has been supportive. Looking forward to sharing all this with you guys.

WatchComm Wednesday #22

Today feels like a good day to update. It’s been four weeks since the last one, and things are cool right now - despite us all being stuck in not-so-sunny England and not flying to Florida for Fest. We’ve been working on and learning new songs, and it’s going well. We have eleven new songs, with one or two still in the works, so there will be an album! We start recording the full-length in about four and a half weeks, which is really exciting. Again, we are recording with our good friend and soon-to-be-legendary-producer Bob Cooper, who is currently mastering his skills and showing off his northern charm to the good citizens of Manhattan and Brooklyn as we speak. We don’t know the specifics of when it’ll all be released etc, but I have no doubt that some new material will start sneaking its way onto the interweb in a few months.

Our next show will be the always-fantastic Punk For Pudsey show in Worcester on November 11th. Maycomb will be coming to our city to play, alongside some other local bands, in an effort to raise money for Children In Need. Looking forward to that one a lot. That’ll be the only show we are doing next month, as we’ll be working on new songs for the album, but we have a handful of dates in December, playing with some very good bands. Look out for those.

Our other news recently was that we got in a whole bunch of new t-shirts with a new design. The wolf crest logo tee is available in SEVEN different colours - white, grey, yellow, navy, black, dark green and red. Some of the sizes in certain colours are selling out though, so don’t miss out! Check out that stuff on our big cartel site.

We’ll see you all next month. Thanks for reading.
